Thank you from Barcelona

We are very grateful to all those who have made the 8 th annual conference of the European Business History Association (EBHA) such a success: staff at the Department of Economics & Business at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), who helped in the preparation; the Institute for Continuing Education IdEC (Institut d'Educació Continua), where the conference was held on 16-18 September 2004; those who provided support during the conference; the members of the academic committee, who selected the papers and, last but not least, the 200 registered participants who with their presentations, comments and questions helped to shed new light on the complex relationship between industry and services from a historical perspective.

Our special thanks go to those who chaired sessions and provided initial comments for the discussion. Thanks also to the members of the roundtable discussion, Jordi Gual from IESE Business School, Antoni Serra Ramoneda, Chairman of Caixa Catalunya and EBHA President Mary Rose, who explored the impact of these developments on regional economies.

Papers from the conference will be published on a CD-Rom (see the Programme section for details). In the meantime, you can enjoy a selection of pictures [NOTE: They were taken by our support staff and Marianne Blaauboer] giving lively impressions from various sessions at the conference, the animated discussions during the coffee breaks and the conference dinner at the Llotja de Mar building of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.
